The conspiracy theorists are going to love this one.

It’s almost too absurd to believe, but in the face of strong photo evidence we are amused to report that the artwork for Jay-Z’s forthcoming album, titled Magna Carta Holy Grail, has been revealed today alongside the actual Magna Carta in Salisbury Cathedral in the south of England.

Yup, Mr Carter seems to have pulled a few strings within his circle of Illuminati buddies in order to place the album cover, which depicts two statues and the rapper’s name struck through with a black mark, next to one of the four original copies of the 1215 charter, which famously set in motion the development of constitutional laws that would protect English subjects from their king.

The installation was announced on Jay-Z’s own lifestyle website Life+Times, where you can see more images of the artwork. If you happen to live nearby, you can also head over to Salisbury Cathedral’s Chapter House to see it throughout July.

Magna Carta Holy Grail will be available to Samsung users on 4 July, and to everyone else on 9 July – hear a snippet of a Timbaland-produced track from the album. Yesterday FACT mulled over what the Samsung tie-up might mean for the future of record sales, given the RIAA’s decision to allow the record to go platinum automatically.
