The Chicago footwork pioneer is laid up.

DJ Rashad has been forced to cancel his forthcoming European tour due to injuries he sustained in a car accident last month.

Rashad severely injured his hip and ribs in the accident on September 19. According to a statement on Hyperdub’s Facebook page, the DJ had hoped to be travel and performing again within weeks, but after attempting a handful of US shows it has now become too painful for him to travel and stand for long periods of time.

Rashad had been lined up to play Machinedrum’s Vapor City album launch in London next month. He and DJ Spinn are also lined up to support Chance The Rapper on tour across the U.S. this autumn, but a decision on Rashad’s involvement will be made nearer the time, according to Hyperdub.

The Chicagoan’s new album Double Cup is out on October 22, his first album for Hyperdub following the release of two EPs on the label this year. Last month FACT sat down with Rashad and his brother-in-arms DJ Spinn to talk about drill, moving away from Lit City – and why you call their music ‘feminine’ at your peril.
