Unauthorised Morrissey biopic planned by producers of Control

But does he want go down in celluloid history?

Morrissey’s compelling and contrarian Autobiography turned out to be one of the biggest books of 2013, and with plans for a new album on Universal later this year, the time seems ripe for a biopic.

Not that Moz has anything to do with it, however. According to the Hollywood Reporter (via Pitchfork), an unauthorised biopic of the indie icon is expected to start shooting by the end of the year.

Steven (Morrissey’s first name) will focus on the singer’s adolescence in Manchester before he found fame with The Smiths, and is helmed by director Mark Gill, whose very brief CV includes The Voorman Problem, a short film starring Martin Freeman.

Among the producers is Orian Williams, who previously oversaw the Ian Curtis biopic Control and is currently working on a movie about The Who’s late manager Kit Lambert.

We await a furious screed from Morrissey on his True To You fan site any minute now.
