Power ambient, anyone?
Faith Coloccia and Alex Barnett will follow-up 2013’s Retrieval with Weld, their second album as Barnett + Coloccia and second for Blackest Ever Black.
Press materials describe Weld as an exploration of various philosophical objectives: “searching for the sacred in the forgotten and supposedly useless; exploring the meaning of ‘natural’; listening for the pulse of the ancient; using technology both to materialise memory and to dream a folklore for a future age.”
The album was created in two stages: first, the pair recorded live at Psychic Western studio in Los Angeles; then, one member would perform overdubs as the other processed the performance at Vashon Island, WA. As with their last album, Randall Dunn of Earth and Sunn O))) oversaw mixing and effects.
Weld is due out in late May and is available for pre-order. The tracklist follows, along with the “agitated wormhole techno” of ‘Dreamsnake’. The duo will also feature on the label’s vinyl-only, LA-inspired I Can’t Give You The Life You Want compilation.
