The Boyz n the Hood and Poetic Justice director has walked away from the upcoming Tupac biopic.

John Singleton has been replaced as director of the long-delayed Tupac biopic. The film finally looked set to begin filming in June after overcoming a host of false starts and disagreements over who owned the rights to the rapper’s story.

Devil in a Blue Dress director Carl Franklin has been chosen to replace the outgoing Singleton. Filming is now expected to begin in August or September.

Earlier in the week, Singleton expressed discontent with those working on the project. “The reason I am not making this picture is because the people involved aren’t really respectful of the legacy of Tupac Amaru Shakur,” he wrote on Instagram. [via AllHipHop]
