“It was not a pleasant world we unwrapped”.

This year it was announced that Kanye West would perform as a headliner at the 2015 Glastonbury Festival. That led to some extremely negative responses from some festival goers — and some non-festival goers such as the man who started a petition (now at over 100,000 signatures) to replace West with “a rock band” despite never having attended the festival himself.

Following the reaction festival organizer Emily Eavis and her father, festival founder Michael Eavis, both defended the decision. Today the younger Eavis revealed the severity of reactions which have gone as far as death threats.

“I had death threats and stuff. It was just horrible. It was just crazy. It was getting out of control,” Eavis said, “It was quite upsetting because we were talking about something that was so exciting and interesting and fresh and brilliant for the festival.” Despite the threats she has only continued to express excitement for West’s appearance.

“Kanye West is making the most exciting music at the moment. He is an amazing force as a performer. For us, getting the biggest star in the world was an amazing coup,” she said. [via The Guardian]
