Update, June 13: The duo are appearing on BBC 6 Music on June 15.

The countdown clock has reached zero and a new message says that Arab Strap will be appearing on Steve Lamacq’s BBC 6 Music show at 4pm on June 15. No indication if this means we’re getting a new Arab Strap album.

Ten years later.

Scottish indie rock duo Arab Strap have posted a mysterious message on their website that reads ‘Hello Again’ above a countdown, currently standing at one day and six hours (which would make it midnight on Monday, GMT).

Composed of Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton, the band were signed to Chemikal Underground and split in 2006, ten years ago. Their importance to Glasgow’s music scene in the 1990s is referenced in the titles of Belle & Sebastian’s third album and Moffat’s work with Reindeer Section. They released six albums between 1996 and 2005.

Arab Strap, named after a sexual device, played their final show in December 2006 in Tokyo, Japan and both members have since gone on to solo careers with Moffat under the L. Pierre moniker and Middleton under his own name.

Speaking about his L. Pierre album The Island Come True in late 2012, Moffat said “there’s something beautiful in hearing the grit and hiss of old recordings. Everything sounds so clean and clinical and perfect today, but I love hearing something that sounds worn and suggests the music has a history.”
