“This is more like crying into the champagne than drinking it.”

Charli XCX announced today via her Instagram story that she’ll be releasing a new mixtape next month. It is produced primarily by A.G. Cook.

She said later in an interview with Dallas radio station Hot 93.3 that the mixtape will sound similar to her upcoming album produced by SOPHIE and Stargate, but is “a lot more sad”. It’s still a party record in the spirit of her recent releases, but “this is more like crying into the champagne than drinking it.”

She adds that the tape was made without the knowledge of her label and that it was written during a period she “felt very frustrated and annoyed” by her label, but she did not explain why. Her last single was the Lil Yachty collaboration ‘After The Afterparty’.
