Nicholas Britell’s acclaimed Moonlight score gets a vinyl release.

Released last fall, Barry Jenkins’ coming-of-age movie Moonlight has swept up acclaim in the months that have followed, scooping the coveted Best Picture award at this year’s controversial Oscars.

Now, Invada has announced that it will be handling the European release of Nicholas Britell’s original soundtrack on vinyl.

According to director Jenkins, Britell was picked because of his innate understanding of the film’s central message: “We’re not going to take the hood to the arthouse, we’re going to bring the arthouse to the hood.”

Britell achieved this by weaving orchestral elements with Southern rap, specifically Houston’s well-documented “screwed and chopped” sound – where records are slowed down and cut to shreds, repurposing the music for alternative listening situations.

The Moonlight OST will be released on June 23 via Invada.
