Danny Wolfers – the Hague-based artist best known for his work as Legowelt – has a new album out this week under his Smackos alias.

Smackos’s UFO Onderzoek 1983 is in fact a “lost” album – its existence was first announced over three years ago, but the masters were misplaced, found only recently “floating around in a cupboard in the IFMX studios”. The album is now available on CD courtesy of Powerman, a subsidiary of I-f’s Hotmix Foundation.

Wolfers, who has a winning penchant for attaching shlocky stories to his atmospheric, synth-based musical offerings, offers this short introduction:

“Autumn 1983. UFO fever has come to the desolated parts of the Netherlands. Rumours of strange sightings and abductions are plenty. Q & D, two students at the astronomy faculty in a small-town university trace the sightings back to the polar regions. They take the plane to the norwegian island of Svalbaerd were they discover the shocking truth…Twenty-seven tracks of adventure, mystery, romance and cosmic horror.”
