One of the finest music journos around right now, Joe Muggs, has put together a new dubstep compilation for Ministry of Sound.

A writer for FACT, The Wire, Mixmag and more, Muggs has emerged in recent years as one of dance music’s premier writers, with a particular eye for ever-mutating UK scene.

In his own words, “we’re past the question of whether dubstep could break the mainstream … but does this mean the sound and scene have sold out their underground credentials?”

Evidently not, as he continues, “round ever corner, in every backstreet club and every suburban estate there are fresh innovations taking place keeping the music just as fresh and eye-opening as it ever was. Mixing and matching elements with its cousins Garage, Grime, House and Electronica, dubstep keeps throwing up new sounds.”

Titled Adventures in Dubstep… And Beyond!, the compilation attempts to prove dubstep’s on-going vitality, while asking questions about what dubstep actually is. Relatively well-known names like Flying Lotus, Martyn and Ikonika [above] appear, but Adventures in Dubstep pays equal attention to up-and-comers like 8Bitch, Sines, J Beatz, Numan, and Svpreme Fiend, who just released a sublime debut EP on Local Action.

There’s also an appearance for sadly deceased producer [B]racket, whose friends and family continue to release his music. Full details, plus slightly dodgy sleeve art can be found on Ministry’s website. Adventures in Dubstep will be released on September 27.
