Breakage’s ‘Hard’ – Newham Generals and David Rodigan – has turned out to be one of the more enduring club tracks of recent times, straddling various scenes and eliciting a number of bottom-heavy remixes.

Redlight‘s version of ‘Hard’ illustrates why he’s been marked out as a producer to watch. Like Breakage, Redlight’s origins are in drum ‘n bass (you may know his work as Clipz), and so he perhaps has a DNA-level understanding of where Breakage is coming from. Building on a galloping soca-flavoured house beat too ruff to be comfortably described as UK Funky, the Newhams’ bars are put to deadly use, and the hooligan-friendly sub-bassline that drops a minute in is something else. Stream and download it below, exclusively from FACT.

Redlight will be spinning b2b with Toddla T at Digital Soundboy’s XOYO party on November 19, along with label boss Shy FX, Breakage, MJ Cole, Hatcha, Donae’o, B.Traits, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Roses Gabor, Trojan Soundsystem, Youngman and many more. More info and tickets here.
