R. Kelly has been accused of ripping fans off, following a “celebrity hosting” event in Texas where punters were charged up to $950.

The event, as The Stool Pigeon report, was billed as An Intimate Night with R. Kelly (to celebrate Mother’s Day!), as opposed to a concert. Regular tickets were $30, though as with all the worst kind of events, there were numerous VIP offers available, the priciest of which set fans back close to a grand.

The only performing the r’n’b legend actually did on the night was a bleary 75 seconds of singing the original version of ‘Ignition’, before requesting that pretty ladies come join him in the VIP section, or he was “up out this bitch.” That was at 12.43am. Around 1.30, as Austin360 report, Kelly returned to the stage to explain that “he wasn’t contractually obligated to sing — so what he had done was a favor, of sorts — and that he was there to get drunk and if the crowd would chill out and let him do so he might come back out and do some more.”

At another point in the night, a promoter tried to reason with angry fans, claiming that Kelly had paid too many dues to be booed, and that at a similar event in Dallas, Kelly sung for half an hour because people showed him love.

Ticketing website Eventbrite, however, will be refunding tickets purchased for the event, because promoters for the show did not state that Kelly would be hosting rather than promoting.

You can watch a video that captures some of the madness below.
