Thomas Köner will release a new album through Touch on June 6.

The title of the record, Novaya Zemlya, refers to “an archipelago in the Arctic Ocean in the north of Russia and the extreme northeast of Europe, the easternmost point of Europe, lying at Cape Flissingsky on the northern island”. Köner has long been preoccupied with exploring landscape and geography in his work, most famously across his sequence of solo albums released 1990-95, Nunatak Gongamur, Teimo, Permafrost and Aubrite. He was also one half of dub-techno duo Porter Ricks, whose classic Chain Reaction LP, Biokinetics, was reissued by Type earlier this year.

The album is furnished with cover photography by Jon Wozencroft, and includes an essay by Thierry Charollais, ‘Thomas Köner’s Novaya Zemlya: towards a metaphysical geography’. It’s available to pre-order from Touch now.
