Danny Brown, one of rap’s most effervescent breakthrough stars, recently made his debut appearance on these shores.
Promoters Livin Proof hosted the Detroit firebrand back in June, staging a show at XOYO and facilitating a riotous appearance at the Boiler Room. A camera crew tracked Brown going about his business, throwing up some thrilling footage of both live appearances. There’s also some backstage footage of a convalescent Brown that suggests ‘Die Like A Rockstar’ might not have been too far off the mark after all.
Particularly exciting, however, is footage of Brown (plus partner in crime Darq E Freaker) up in the studio with minimalist beat heroes TNGHT. No rapping, unfortunately – the video just shows Messrs Mohawke and Lunice playing Brown a series of beats – but it’s surely a strong hint that there might be some collaboration underway between the two powerhouses. TNGHT have talked about already having rappers in mind for their instrumentals – could Brown be one of them? Speculation aside, it’s a cracking watch.
