UK underground fixture Dobie announces new album for Big Dada: check out the first track and Chris Ofili-painted artwork inside

Big Dada have announced full details of We Will Not Harm You, the new album by Dobie.

Real name Anthony Campbell, Dobie has been a fixture in the world of UK music since the late ’80s, most notably due to his work for Soul II Soul, but also his production for London Posse and remixes for Tricky, Bjork and more. We Will Not Harm You is Dobie’s third album, following 1998’s The Sound of One Hand Clapping and a revisit of that record for BBE in 2004, and will be released on February 4 2013.

Better still, the record’s sleeve [right] is an original painting by 1998 Turner Prize winner Chris Ofili. A press release sent out today explains that “Ofili and Dobie have been friends for years”, and that the work “was painted as Ofili listened to the album and the EPs which preceded it and shipped direct from his studio in Trinidad. The cover image shows three figures, two sitting at a table smoking and playing cards, while the third stands holding drinks. The smoke forms a picture within the picture and this detail will be used for the cover of the single which will accompany the album, ‘She Moans.’ Ofili completes the image by writing Dobie’s name and the album title, though this part of the picture will not appear on finished albums and vinyl.”

You can listen to the album’s first track, ‘I-Anomaly’, here.
