I SMELL A DARKNESS: BONNIE ‘PRINCE’ BILLY UNVEILS NEW FRAGRANCE

Where David Beckham and Paris Hilton go, Will Oldham follows.

Oldham’s had a lot on his plate in recent months, releasing a Christmas EP, narrating a film about the Northern Lights and soundtracking an eccentric-sounding surfing doc. Next on the agenda? The man behind alt.folk institution Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy is releasing his own brand of eau de toilette.

As A Shaded View On Fashion [via Exclaim] report, fragrance company Sanae Intoxicants launched Bonnie Billy on Monday. Oldham has been involved in the project from the off, commissioning the company to produce a fragrance using the odours of the agarwood tree. A 5ml vial goes for $220, with 0.5ml tasters selling for $22.

Sanae’s promo bumpf does a better job than we can of pitching the perfume: “Underneath the bouquet of the mukhallat, on a warm, Egyptian jasmine, tobacco night, rocks the ancient, romantic rhythm of the Assam oud. Relish in this mystical, swirling dance. It will light up all who surround you”. Oldham’s got previous in this department, as our feature on musical drink ranges demonstrated.
