Author – the dubstep-leaning union of Jack Sparrow and Ruckspin – are to return with their sophomore LP.

Author hoved into view with a self-titled LP for Pinch’s Tectonic label back in 2011, a record we lauded at the time for its “devastatingly keen ear for composition” and soulful flourishes. Not surprising, given Sparrow and Ruckspin’s respective CVs. Sparrow has put out a string of releases on Tectonic, including rattling 2009 single ‘The Chase’; following fleet-footed 2010’s Circadian LP, he’s made a natural transition onto Deep Medi Musik, dropping last year’s ‘Afraid Of Me’ single. Ruckspin, meanwhile, handles sound design and effects as part of instrumental soul-meets-dubstep ensemble Submotion Orchestra.

In June, the Leeds producers will team up once again for a new album, Forward Forever. The record promises a more “natural-feeling, organic vibe”, and points to Ninja Tune favourites The Cinematic Orchestra and Bonobo as key influences. Guest spots are promised from UK hip-hop face Jehst and battle regular Stig Of The Dump. Black Canvas’ Rider Shafique, last heard on Kahn’s ‘Late Night Blues’, will also appear, as will reggae vocalist Dan Man.

Forward Forever is due on June 24 on Black Box. Thrumming album track ‘Innovate’ is available to stream below, and shows the pair’s languorous new direction in full effect.
