The shifty track is a fitting introduction to Bronx collection ReeLife.

Doley Bernays is yet another nascent talent in New York’s fertile hip-hop underground. Bernays combines old-school lyricism (and not Golden Era nostalgia) with off-kilter, forward-thinking beats.

‘Till We Fall’ is the type of resigned-to-the-life storytelling that has animated recent tracks by Kevin Gates and Lil Durk, with couplets like “And I ain’t saying sell drugs, but I’m saying it’s faster/ And I ain’t saying use guns, but I’m saying they’ll back up”.

The highlight here might just be the shifty, piano-driven beat by fellow ReeLife-member MP Williams: the song abruptly changes pace to reveal a Baltimore club-nodding hook that is based on a sample of Slim Thug’s ‘3 Kings’. Stream the track below; it will appear on Bernays’ forthcoming EP, Just In Case.
