If there’s one composer who stands above all others in the Italian horror subgenre it has to be Fabio Frizzi.

Responsible for a slew of influential soundtracks throughout the 70s and early 80s, it’s his very particular synth-heavy style you bring to mind when you think back to cult director Lucio Fulci‘s Zombie Flesh Eaters, City of the Living Dead and The Beyond.

Frizzi was in many ways as important to Fulci as horror prog pioneers Goblin were to Dario Argento, and in recent years his work has been elevated from a mere curiosity to a genuine cult concern, with bands and artists such as Zombi, Umberto and Xander Harris using his blueprint as the starting point for a new generation of synth music.

It’s understandable then that with this new interest Frizzi is making his debut U.K. performance, and this halloween at London’s Union Chapel the composer will take a lucky audience through his best loved soundtrack work with the assistance of a full band and strings.

Frizzi seems to be more than happy about this saying, “It’s like an old dream come true… playing a magical location such as the Union Chapel on such a symbolic date – Halloween! And my themes, which have been resting in the microgrooves of vinyl for so long, will be coming back to life, just like the characters in so many Lucio Fulci movies. I’m looking forward to it very much.”

Support is yet to be announced, but the Death Waltz DJs will be there playing no doubt a wide selection of some of the best (and most obscure) soundtracks you’ve never heard.
