It’s hard to believe that it’s been four long years since we heard from Modern Love‘s Millie & Andrea.

A collaboration between knackered house purveyor Andy Stott and Demdike Stare’s Miles Whittaker, the project has long been their outlet for exploring sounds not usually associated with their solo productions, and latest 12″ ‘Stage 2’ is certainly no different. The crushing beat reveals that the duo may have been listening to their fair share of Hudson Mohawke productions recently, but as usual Stott and Whittaker put their own unique spin on the sound with sly dubby flourishes and crunching overdrive.

The 12″ serves as a prelude to Millie & Andrea’s long-delayed full length, which is apparently due on Modern Love later this year, and typically sounds “nothing like” ‘Stage 2’.
