If you’re not familiar with the Super Mario Bros. theme, then it’s time to re-assess your life choices.

Far from simply accompanying one aging cartridge from 1985, Koji Kondo’s memorable composition has embedded itself into videogame culture itself, standing out as the most recognizable theme in gaming history, and being reworked time and time again.

It’s somehow fitting then that Kondo’s score is the subject of the new 33 1/3 volume, and penned by Andrew Schartmann (who previously wrote Maestro Mario: How Nintendo Transformed Videogame Music) it looks as if it’ll be packed full of intriguing details and revelations.

You can read more about the book over at the 33 1/3 site, and refresh your memory of the soundtrack itself below. [via Joystiq]
