Forgotten Classics is a weekly feature where we ask FACT contributors and noted diggers from across the spectrum to pick an obscure gem that they think has been unfairly brushed under the carpet and explain why it’s worthy of re-appraisal. This week:

THE CHILDREN
Freedom
(DJ International, 1987)

Picked by: Point G, aka seasoned deep house head DJ Gregory.

Back in ’94, we used to have a radio show midday mix from 12 to 2, Monday to Saturday, with my friends DJ Deep and Alex from Tokyo (who grew up in Japan but finished his studies in France) on FG 98.2.

As a veteran house music lover, I admit that I truly missed this one. Alex played it to me after a gig around 7am, and it was a complete shock to me. This record, amongst so many others from those days, reflects a certain sadness and the difficulties to be different; let’s put it this way, thinking and feeling while you dance. I could also add that one needs chaos in the soul to give birth to a dancing star.

Point G will be performing live at Need2Soul’s 10th Birthday at Fire this weekend; head here for tickets.
