Rob Da Bank leaving Radio 1 for BBC Radio 6 Music

The eclectic DJ changes gigs at the BBC.

Rob da Bank has been on Radio 1 for over a decade, most recently as the host of a Friday-night/Saturday-morning show focused on left-field electronics. Now, he’s announced plans to move to BBC Radio 6 Music; he’ll be leaving Radio 1 in September.

“I’m so pleased to be joining the 6 Music family,” he says in a statement. “Not only does the station have some of my favourite DJs in the world on it but it has the broadest range of music on radio, and I can’t wait to dive in and play whatever I want to one of the fastest-growing audiences around.”

The Bestival founder will join fellow DJs Jamie xx, Andrew Weatherall, Derrick May, Groove Armada, Goldie and Erol Alkan on the 6 Mix (Fridays, 10pm to midnight). Previously, he served two stints as a guest DJ.

In other changes at Radio 1, Skream will move from his Friday night slot to join Radio 1’s Residency, with a new three-hour show on Thursday at 10pm.

B.Traits also joins Radio 1’s Friday night dance line-up from 1–4am, following Annie Mac and Pete Tong, whose shows have both been extended by an hour.

Over at Radio 1Xtra, the weekday 10pm shows have been revamped with Monki starting a new show on Mondays, plus a new show for Sian Anderson on Wednesdays and Seani B on Thursdays, while rapper A.Dot joins the station with a Saturday slot from 4-7pm. [via Music Week]
