Shit And Shine return with 54-Synth-Brass 38 Metal Guitar 65 Cathedral – hear 'Electric Pony 2'

Genre-bending rock savages returns with a new album and an epic title.

Craig Clouse’s Shit And Shine have been undergoing a fascinating metamorphosis of late, bringing their transgressive attitude to grubby industrial rawk into the sphere of blasted club music, as flagged up on last year’s Powder Horn on Powell’s Diagonal imprint. As we noted in awe at the time, Clouse managed to find a glorious niche between “grungy, dungeon-dwelling electronic mayhem [and] vintage, b-boy electro.”

Hot on the heels of that album comes their next full-length, due on Rocket Recordings this spring under the magnificent title of 54-Synth-Brass 38 Metal Guitar 65 Cathedral. Lead track ‘Electric Pony 2’ sees the band carving out a krautrock-meets-minimal wave sound that manages to be both hypnotic and gnarly – just the thing for a Powell DJ set, we reckon.

Hear that (and check out the album artwork) in the video below, and look out for the album on March 16. We’re promised “spectres of smooth jazz fusion”, “abstract funk” and “the against-the-grain approach of Aphex Twin”, which all sounds great. The tracklist is underneath.
