NSFW art got Arca banned from Instagram

By , Jun 1 2015

Jesse Kanda’s imagery has fallen foul of the censors.

Yesterday Arca uploaded a new track called ‘Vanity’ to his SoundCloud page together with some striking art by close collaborator Jesse Kanda.

Despite the imagery being computer-generated, the explicit nature of the pose has gained him a ban from Instagram and a deletion of his account for violating the social network’s terms, as a tweet from the producer below shows.

This isn’t the first time Kanda’s images have fallen foul of overzealous censorship – the art on the iTunes version of his Xen album also comes with certain regions pixellated out. Listen to the track in question here. [via Pitchfork]

Update: Arca’s account has been restored, which he attribute to the public outcry: “THEY CHANGED THEIR MIND AFTER PEOPLE MADE A FUSS SO THANK YOU FOR MAKING A FUSS, BUT THAT STILL MAKES INSTAGRAM LAME AS HELL FOR DELETING MY PIC AND ACCOUNT FUK U IG.”
