A couple of months after the project was outlined in an interview with FACT, Jeff Mills’ Exhibitionist 2 is finally set for release.

The CD + DVD package will be out in September 2015, 11 years on from the first edition, accompanied by a series of three EP releases serving as “an introduction to the Detroit native’s new effort to go behind the scenes and inside the mind of an electronic musician.” Exhibitionist 2 Part 1 (AX067) kicks off the series, dropping in late June on Axis Records.

All the tracks were written by Mills specifically for the project and will feature in the Studio Mix on the DVD, which gives fans “an inside view as to how some of the tracks were created”.

“The Exhibitionist 2 DVD is designed to go even deeper into the art form to display, not only how a DJ uses the latest technology, but how he thinks in real time to create and work spontaneously like a musician playing an acoustic instrument or a soloist thinking of rhythms on-the-spot. This is a rare opportunity to see how the technology of today is allowing DJs to be more free and thus, more creative,” says Mills.

In the meantime, Le Louvre in Paris will host an Exhibitionist 2 night on June 19 as part of Mills’ current residency, where he has been curating a series of concerts featuring the likes of pianist Mikhaïl Rudy, choreographer Michel Abdoul and science fiction writer David Calvo.

Mills has invited bassist Angie Taylor and keyboardist Gerald Mitchell to perform alongside an edit of the DVD material created specifically for the event. The film will “dig deep and explore the mechanics of the brain of the most celebrated electronic musician, and follow him as he creates music on the spot while providing a commentary of the whole process.”
