Migos say they were given scripts for a documentary about their life in Atlanta.

In January the rappers were filmed holding automatic weapons and bags of weed on an episode of Noisey Atlanta, a 10-part series documenting the city’s hip-hop scene. The trio were portrayed living in a gated neighborhood in Stockbridge, a suburb south of Atlanta, and at one point a member of their crew told the filmmaker that the AR-15 he was holding was “brand new out the box.”

Asked about the documentary during an interview on ESPN’s Highly Questionable yesterday, Quavo and Takeoff denied any involvement with the guns and said the feature was “a movie”.

“We still live in that country club but it was a movie, they put us in that house,” says Quavo in the clip, while Takeoff adds: “It was a movie, we acted it out.”

When presenter Dan Le Batard says he doesn’t understand, Quavo says: “It was roleplaying, that wasn’t our house in the first place.”

“They gave us a script, they gave me a script. I played it well ‘cos y’all think it was real,” adds Takeoff.

Pressed again by Le Batard, Quavo clarified that some aspects of the documentary were real, like the fact they record their hits in a closet, “but the guns, I wouldn’t say, nah.”

Earlier this year Migos’ third member Offset, who is currently in prison for drug and gun possession, blamed his arrest on Vice and Noisey and said he was “tricked” by filmmakers, but didn’t elaborate further.

Later in the interview they talk about being shot at on a Miami highway in March and Offset is doing in jail. Watch it below and see the Noisey Atlanta documentary underneath.

The trio’s first official full-length, Yung Rich Nation, is currently streaming ahead of its release on July 31. [via Hypetrak]
