Ryuichi Sakamoto and Alva Noto are behind the score for The Revenant, the acclaimed new film by Birdman director Alejandro González Iñárritu.
Based on the novel by Michael Punke, The Revenant stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a 19th century explorer who’s brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his hunting team. The score — which was mostly written and performed by Sakamoto, with additional music from Alva Noto and The National’s Bryce Dessner — is brooding and slow-moving, evoking the bleak and desolate landscape of the American west in winter.
