Pandora’s latest feature gives artists a new way to connect.

Pandora has announced AMPcast, a new feature that lets artists record their own messages for distribution to their fans through the service.

AMPcast is an extension of the internet radio service’s artist audio messages that launched in 2015, but the new feature will allow artists to record DIY messages using their phones that are played through Pandora’s music stream.

As TechCrunch reports, the new feature is part of the company’s artist marketing programme, and streamlines the process for artists by removing the need to record messages in a studio.

The experience is tailored so that users only receive message from artists they’ve used to start a station with, meaning that unnecessary spam in a listener’s feed should be largely avoided. The service will be rolling out to all artists in the next few months.

The addition of the feature follows Pandora’s acquisition of streaming service Rdio for $75m last year, which will see the company use Rdio’s technology and staff to provide “an expanded Pandora listening experience.”
