Another cut from The Diary is revealed on Beats 1.

Yesterday’s edition of The Pharmacy, the Dr. Dre Beats 1 show, included a premiere of a new song from J Dilla’s lost MCA album, The Diary.

‘Gangsta Boogie’ was produced by Hi-Tek and features Kokane and Snoop Doog, whose verse was recorded after Dilla had passed during the making of the album (the hint is in the lyrics).

Originally recorded in the early 2000s before Dilla moved to Los Angeles, The Diary is released April 16 on vinyl via Mass Appeal and Pay Jay, the label set up as part of the James Yancey estate.

Earlier this week, Mass Appeal also released a video of Detroit producer Karriem Riggins speaking about his relationship with Dilla. Riggins appears on The Diary with the track ‘Drive Me Wild’, which you can hear in the backdrop to the video.
