Still reeling? Us too. Take comfort in these unbeatable, lesser known Prince gems.

Kate Bush wrote a tribute to Prince on her website, calling him “an inspiration” and “a man in complete control of his work from writer and musician to producer and director.”

“And blow me down, he was a fan of our band! Yes, he loved us and boy we loved him. It’s almost surreal to imagine him listening to Blue Bell Knoll and Heaven Or Las Vegas,” writes Cocteau Twins’ Simon Raymonde in a tribute to Prince on Facebook.

I was lucky enough to witness the genius of @prince from side stage at la Zona Rosa in Austin TX(the show also included the genius of @ATCQ -RIP Phife) and my mind was forever blown up close and personal as he just destroyed us with nearly 4 hrs of non stop heat. we were crying and screaming and singing and dancing along in a state of pure loving madness bliss. he said at one point to the crowd: “don’t make me hurt you- you know how many hits I got!” oh he hurt us- and it hurt so good. I have never seen another performer work so hard for so long onstage and I have valued that night so much and now sadly even more. !!!just think of ALL the nights we have danced our asses off til dawn grooving to his unbelievable sounds!!! just think how artists like prince and David Bowie have taught us to accept who we are in all our beautiful weirdness and that LOVE is LOVE and love is beautiful in any form and all of us are a beautiful blend of man and woman…light and dark…black and white and every shade of the rainbow…it’s all there inside each and every one of us- and we need to celebrate it every single day. we are all the same and you can really feel that when you see and hear prince- just how fun it is to be alive and filled with love. let’s go out and spread love and acceptance thru-out the land dancing like wild banshees filled with the light of love and the healing power of music. I have laughed and loved and cried and I will live loving his sound til the day I day. God bless you prince for all the beautiful love and funky weirdness you gave the world we are eternally grateful and will be dancing to you and singing along until the end of time and beyond.

It was Raspberry Beret. I was 4 years old. Yes, 4. I remember that I instantly loved it. “Mommy, who is that singing?” Seems weird but it’s true. More than a “once in a lifetime” artist… Just a ONCE IN FOREVER ARTIST. I’m still in shock as I write this and I feel this overwhelming grief. But, we should all turn away from that and HONOR this musician that changed all of our lives, our perspectives, our feeling, our whole being. From another planet? Probably. Royalty, for sure. Us worthy..? Laughable. They say don’t meet your idols… That they let you down. But, some of my greatest, funniest (yes, he was hilarious), and most prolific encounters and conversations about music came from the moments that I spent with him. It would be silly to say that he has inspired our music… It’s beyond that. He’s somewhere within every song I’ve ever written. I am sad, but I will smile when I think of every second that I had the fortune of being in his company. We have lost our greatest living musician. But his music will never die. Prince, NOTHING COMPARES… #RIPPrince

Frank Ocean writes on Tumblr: “I’m not even gonna say rest in peace because it’s bigger than death… I know of who affected many in a way that will outrun oblivion for a long while. I’m proud to be a prince fan(stan) for life.” Read his whole statement.
