He is probably watching Wimbledon right now.

It’s not widely known, but Lil Wayne is a tennis nut! In a new article for the Guardian, writer Bryan Armen Graham recalls his time working for Sports Illustrated where he reached out to an incarcerated Wayne (this was 2010, when the rapper was serving a one-year term at Rikers Island for a weapons charge) to write about his love for tennis.

The letter he eventually received from the rapper finds Wayne discussing the sport with the eagerness of a young fan (“I love the William sisters, I simply adore Maria Sharapora, and I’m a huge Nadal fan!”). He breaks down stats, considers injuries and correctly predicts Rafael Nadal’s Wimbledon win despite the player’s knee injury. Perhaps the most insightful part, though, is his own reflection on why tennis excites him so much.

“One of the main reasons I enjoy the sport so much is because when I actually tried to play, it was unbelievably difficult. So ever since I’ve been drawn to the great talents of the game,” he explains.
