The long-awaited film is out this year.

Terrence Malick has unveiled the first look at his new film Song To Song with a trailer that includes Iggy Pop and Flea in addition to leading actors Rooney Mara, Natalie Portman, Michael Fassbender and Ryan Gosling.

The film will premiere at SXSW March 10, a week before it opens to New York and LA theaters. The film revolves around several musicians in Austin, TX following two couples (Mara and Gosling, Portman and Fassbinder) who “chase success through a rock’n’roll landscape of seduction and betrayal.”

The film is one of many projects Malick started after returning from his lengthy hiatus in 2011 with The Tree Of Life and has been in development since 2012. The film was brought to many peoples attention then when Val Kilmer appeared on stage with the Black Lips during Fun Fun Fun Fest. Kilmer acted erratically, smashing a guitar, destroying an amp with a chainsaw and cutting his hair off with a knife, while Malick’s crew filmed the festival.

The project has a long list of rumored artists to be involved including Arcade Fire, Fleet Foxes, Neon Indian, Patti Smith, Lykke Li and Big Freedia. [via Pitchfork]
