MUTEK 2017 announces its first wave of artists.
MUTEK Montréal is back for its 18th (!) year and there are some big changes afoot. Firstly, the event has now moved to August 22-27 and on top of this, the pioneering festival has expanded its program by a day and doubled down on its commitment to live music and innovation.
The festival has announced its first list of artists and it already looks like an essential trip for North American experimental music heads.
Robert Henke (aka Monolake) will be performing, as will NYC techno stalwart Aurora Halal, Subtext’s Fis, modular synth expert Sarah Davachi, Canada’s own Kara-Lis Coverdale (who was a highlight of last year’s event), Marie Davidson, Daphni and more.
MUTEK will be running more free events this year at Montréal’s Esplanade de la Place des Arts and the festival’s base will be at Monument-National with Métropolis again hosting more club-oriented events and Society for Arts and Technology (SAT) for more intimate, experimental material.
