Cans merchant Dr. Dre is embroiled in a legal dispute with rival manufacturers Yamaha.

As AllHipHop report, the supremely wealthy producer-turned-salesman is suing electronics titan Yamaha over alleged copyright infringement. The claim was filed last week in California by lawyers for Dre’s Beats Electronics company, who claim that Yamaha’s PRO headphone line borrow  their design from Dre’s ubiquitous Beats range.

Dre’s camp claim that the designs are so similar that consumers might realistically confuse the two brands, and are suing for a minimum of $75,000 in damages. An extract from the lawsuit reads:

“Consumers appreciated the design, as well as the sound quality, of Beats and began wearing the Beats headphones around their necks as a fashion accessory even when not listening to music. In fact the design of the Beats headphones has been a significant driver of the commercial success of the products.”

The lawsuit follows threats of legal action against the Japanese company in late 2012. Dr. Dre, alongside Rick Ross and Jay-Z, is currently on the receiving end of a lawsuit himself, relating to a contentious sample of gospel group Crowns of Glory on Rick Ross’ 2012 track ‘3 Kings’.
