Following her spartan version of Arthur Russell’s ‘You And Me Both’, L.A.’s Julia Holter has covered another leftfield icon.  

This time around, Holter’s subject is growling Italian singer Paolo Conte,  responsible for four decades worth of warped music hall and impish lounge music. Holter recasts Conte’s wonderfully groggy lounge composition ‘Chiamami Adesso’ as a siren’s song – Conte’s yearning and romance are still there, but there’s a gauzy, wistful quality that brings Leyland Kirby’s work as The Caretaker to mind.

Holter will release a follow-up to 2012’s Ekstasis later in the year.
