Her first performances in the country in three years.

M.I.A has announced her first run of US shows following a visa ban.

Last May, the UK-born star tweeted that wouldn’t be able to tour the US without a visa because she was banned from re-entering the country. In October, she revealed that her visa had been approved and in January sent a tweet from LA.

M.I.A – who dropped a new single in February – will be performing at Chicago’s Riot Fest and the Meadows in New York, which are both taking place in September.

The US has restricted the singer and political activist access into and out of the country throughout her career.

In other M.I.A news, the Matangi artist recently gave an update on her long-gestating documentary, explaining that it could be another 10 years before it sees the light of day.

M.I.A is curating this year’s Meltdown festival in London, with Soulwax, Princess Nokia and Father among the acts performing. [via Pitchfork]
