This September, Invada Records will release a special limited edition of BAFTA winning film September, packaged with the film’s soundtrack, including tracks that "never made it into the film, but inspired its aesthetic, plus a book of recipes made up of roadside, September foraged foods."

The package will also include a September Recipe Book. Esther sez: "during the filming of September we sat a lot in fields. And watched the sun, and felt the season change. I also got hungry. I’m always kind of hungry. Out on the film’s recces blackberries surrounded us. A week later on the shoot, they’d passed, replaced by Hawthorne and Rosehips. Nuts were fruiting in the trees."

"The art of foraging. Wild ways. Seasonality. Change. Rites of passage. The more I looked, the stiller I was, the more potential was there. And this got me thinking about late summer foods to play with. Foods I could forage.

"I started to experiment. Chestnut soup. Hazelnut/chocolate spread. The hedgerow found foods – elderberry port, bramble crumbles, late summer puddings. Then I found more adventurous seasonal ingredients and recipes; quartered wood pigeon, mushroom pie. Classics like Sloe gin surfaced, then a foraged corn chowder, chutneys, and very soon other contributions came in: raspberry vinegar, apple mush and blackberry drink. ‘Café Kino’, my home from home, offered their best nut roast. All good, simple recipes.

"And everyone has a foraging tale: an aunt’s jam, memories of Rosehip syrup, a lethal home-brewed brandy or gin… and from these stories I wrote the recipes, to flavour, bring the tastes and smells to the sounds and the images of September."

September: Limited Edition comes out on September 1 via Invada.
