Bored of the Buddha Box? Looking for something a little darker?

Well Chicago label Flingco Sound, which Kranky founder Bruce Adams started last year, seem to have just the thing. The vinyl-focused label has been one of FACT’s faves since its formation, putting out stunning dark ambient and black metal records by Cristal, Haptic, Wrnlrd, Grief No Absolution and Interbellum. This September, they will put out their first non-vinyl release in the form of The Black Box.

"The Black Box is a hand held tombstone, an obsidian device with looped tracks from Cristal, Haptic and Wrnlrd and two spoken word sound pieces from Annie Feldmeier Adams. These FFS artists have created deep dark and disturbing sound constructs specifically for this project. There are nine tracks total.

"The Black Box is a portable, battery powered soundbox. You can control the volume, select the track or allow the looped tracks to play as long as you like. Each miniature monolith is powered by two AA batteries (which are not included). There are outlets for earbuds (if you want to keep your despair to yourself) and an external power source. Each box is packaged individually in suitably ominous black cardboard boxes. An edition of 2000 boxes have been manufactured."
