Brooklyn duo Mountains, whose Fennesz-recalling Choral LP was one of the first half of this year’s most enjoyable full-lengths, will follow it with a new limited vinyl album in September.
Titled Etchings, it’s a re-issue of a live album that was previously sold as a tour-only CD-R. Currently unavailable, this is the first time it will ever have been available on vinyl, resequenced for the LP format and limited to 1, 000 hand-stamped copies. It will be available from September 28 via Thrill Jockey.
On the same date the Chicago label will be releasing a 12" from Baltimore local heroes Thank You, titled Pathetic Magic. The A-side sports two new Thank You tracks, ‘Pathetic Magic’ and ‘Strange Ali’, but we’re more interested in the B, which features remixes from Dan Deacon, White Williams and Jason Urick (whose bandmate Shaun Flynn contributes artwork), and Lungfish’s Asa Osborne. The EP was recorded by Chris Coady, who’s worked with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Celebration and TV on the Radio, and Craig Bowen, whose slightly less heady credits include work with Ecstatic Sunshine and Growing.
