Spike Jonze‘s new film, a collaboration with Absolut, will launch globally online March 1, 2010, preceded by a series of preview screenings in the UK.

The 30-minute film, entitled I’m Here, is a “robot love story” celebrating a life enriched by creativity. It’s set in a parallel Los Angeles with a number of robot residents living among the human population, and follows the changing fortunes of a solitary, reserved robot librarian (pictured above) when he meets an impassioned, adventurous female robot.

The film – which recently premiered at the Sundance festival – stars David Kramer, owner of LA’s Family bookstore, as the lead singer in fake band The Lost Trees, alongside Aska Matsumiya of “LA’s best kept musical secrets” Moonrats. Jonze also recruited Yeah Yeah Yeahs‘ Nick Zinner and Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ Flea to perform the film’s lead song, vocalled by Matsumiya (and released via iTunes last week).

One of the world’s most imaginative filmmakers, director of the features Being John Malkovich, Adaptation and Where The Wild Things Are, Jones has also shot innumerable classic music videos for the likes of The Beastie Boys, Fatboy Slim, Weezer and Sonic Youth.

Prior to the film’s global release, there will be a series of pop-up screenings taking place in the UK:

Thursday 25th Feb – Somewhere in central London 19.00, 20.45
Friday 26th Feb – Somewhere in central Manchester 19.00, 20.45
