TV on The Radio mainstay and acclaimed producer Dave Sitek has revealed details of his new “solo” project.
LA-based Sitek, who has worked the faders for the likes of Telepathe and Holly Miranda, has been working an album with the title Maximum Balloon. It contains 11 new tracks, was recorded at his home studio, and is due out on August 23.
Guest contributors to the album include Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O, TV On The Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe and Kyp Malone, Little Dragon’s Yukimi Nagano, Theophilus London, Holly Miranda and, er, Dragons of Zynth’s Aku Orraca-Tetch.
“It is predominantly a dance record,” Sitek tells NME. “The songs are really immediate and every one of them comes on real strong.
“I had total freedom when I was making this record so when I was recording it, it felt like I was putting everything into one basket and letting it float off into space.”
You can download lead single ‘Tiger’ now over at maximumballoon.com.
“The whole album surprisingly came together from that one song,” Sitek explains. “We realised we could lay down a track as creatively as we wanted and we wouldn’t have to worry about our respective bands. That inspired me to work in the same way with the other singers.”
The video for ‘Tiger’ features Daisy Lowe. Says Dave of the hook-up:
“I gave her an advance copy of the album and said, ‘Pick a song you’d like to dance to,’ and she loved that track so she started dancing and having fun to it.”
