Southern Lord will release the debut and sophomore albums of Boris in their first vinyl editions on August 30.
The cult Japanese metal troupe’s 1996 debut, Absolutego, was originally released on CD in 1996 through Boris’s own Fangs Anal Satan imprint, and its 1998 follow-up, Amplifier Worship, came courtesy of Mangrove. Southern Lord issued a US CD edition of Absolutego in 2001, and did the same for Amplifier Worship in 2003.
Due to the length of their songs, neither Absolutego nor Amplifier Worship have ever been released on vinyl – until now. Following a process of “much deliberation and clever editing”, Southern Lord are issuing both LPs on 180g deluxe, gatefold double-vinyl. The artwork (pictured above and below) has been overhauled by Sunn O))’s Stephen O’Malley, Southern Lord’s resident designer, and mail-order customers will receive red (Absolutego) and green (Amplifier Worship) vinyl versions limited to 1,000 copies each. More information here.
2010 has also seen Southern Lord launch its own vinyl subscription service, through which 550 dedicated fans/collectors receive deluxe vinyl editions of Southern Lord albums (by the likes of Black Cobra and Pelican), with various exclusives thrown in. More information on that here.
