Notting Hill Carnival is almost upon us, and with it a deluge of pre- and post-carnival parties vying for our attention.
Trouble Vision’s warm-up party at Corsica Studios on August 27 certainly looks worth a sniff, with everyone’s favourite junglist rasta Congo Natty headlining proceedings, with the no less legendary Tenor Fly lending his MC skills to the mix. Bristol institution DJ Derek will be playing mellower but no less righteous fare from Jamaica, namely the best rocksteady, ska and reggae from the 50s on through the 70s; Corsica’s meaty soundsystem can be relied upon to coax all latent bass-weight out of these timeless productions.
Bringing up the rear are Gentlemen’s Dub Club, playing a live set of funk, hip-hop and, er, dub-inspired tunes, and another live set from OnlyJoe; Trouble Vision residents including Boogaloo Crew, Hesseltime, Mr Solid Gold and Park Ranger will also be representing. You can check out a special ragga-flavoured carnival mixtape that Hessel has made – featuring tracks by Tenor Saw, Buju Banton and Vybz Kartel among others – here.
