The 2010 Elevate festival takes place in Graz, Austria, October 21-25.

Its extensive programme traverses “music, arts and political discourse”, and the music strand is particularly formidable, a diverse range of artists operating in very different creative spheres but all linked by their willingness to experiment.

Elevate’s opening on Thursday 21 October is headlined by Kompakt duo Walls performing live, with Over At The Stars, M.A.R.S., Bernstein, Mike Bonnano of The Yes Men and others. FACT hero Felix Kubin will also be appearing with writer and sound terrorist Fritz Ostermayer.

Mount Kimbie lead the charge on Friday 22 October, as part of a showcase co-hosted with Red Bull Music Academy. Jamie xx will show off his command of post-dubstep rhythms and ‘Mngo’-man Joy Orbison will be DJing as well. Pursuit Grooves, Feolony Fats and Cheever complete the line-up. Next door you’ll be treated to a “semi-live” set from Regis and Function AKA Sandwell District and a live set from Claro Intelecto, with support from The Tweakers and Martin Kober. Meanwhile fans of noise and synthesizer music can check out Emeralds, Oneohtrix Point Never, Chris Corsano and others.

Saturday 23 October features minimal techno godfather Robert Hood, London’s own Actress plus Secretsundaze’s Giles Smith and Elektro Guzzi (live). Rougher house sounds come from Altered Natives, juke man DJ Spinn and Chriss Murderbot. Rotator, Baconhead, Christoph de Babalon, Deadfader and others head up a room of breakcore and its derivatives.

Following a Sunday of ambient music and visuals, the festival draws to a close on Monday 25 October with a screening of Animal Collective’s ODDSAC movie and live performances from – among others – prog-R&B fantasist Hudson Mohawke, chillwave poster-boy Toro Y Moi, DJ Sprinkles and Merzbow.
