Bill Orcutt – ‘My Reckless Parts’

Following a hyperactive 2010 that saw it ranked among FACT’s labels of the year, Editions Mego is kicking off the new year in style.

As well as the previously announced reissue of Bill Orcutt‘s extraordinary A New Way To Pay Old Debts, January and February will see Peter Rehberg’s Vienna-based brings us new albums from CoH, Evil Madness and Thymolphthalein.

COH is the principal recording guise of veteran Russian electronic musician Ivan Pavlov, best known for his releases on Raster-Noton, and collaborations with Throbbing Gristle’s Peter Christopherson and Cosey Fanni Tutti. His last work for Mego was 2006’s 0397 Post-Pop.

The new CoH album is entitled IIRON, and is available on double-vinyl and CD, with cover art by Sunn O))’s Stephen O’Malley (see below). Like its 2000 predecessor, IRON, its a metal album, or at least an album about metal, with sludgy guitars foregrounded in the mix and subjected to heavy electronic processing. The album draws upon recordings originally made by Pavlov in the USSR between 1988 and 1990, when metal was something of an outlaw culture.

Evil Madness is an Icelandic supergroup of sorts, with a personnel that includes acclaimed solo artists BJ Nilsen and Jóhann Jóhannsson. Super Great Love is their fourth album together, and is purportedly a collection of “upbeat Icelandic ‘Disko’ tunes”. Thymolphthalein is an electro-acoustic quintet with members from France and Australia and their album Ni maître, Ni marteau, driven prepared piano, bass, percussion and analogue electronics, was recorded live in Basel in 2009. Both these albums are available on vinyl LP, limited to 500 copies each.
