Brighton’s monthly audiovisual event The Outer Church digs deep into the murkier corners of contemporary psychedelia, dragging all manner of eldritch ephemera through its glowering portal.
On February 10, the OC will play host to a live performance by the remarkable Demdike Stare, whose acclaimed 2010 trilogy of vinyl-only releases – Forest Of Evil, Liberation Through Hearing and Voices Of Dust – has just been compiled by Modern Love into a beautifully packaged 3CD set with 40 minutes of bonus material. Demdike duo Sean Canty and Miles Whittaker will be providing bespoke visuals for their full-length set.
Recent editions of the OC have featured live sets from Position Normal, Moon Wiring Club and The Haxan Cloak, with visual contributions from US film director Graham Reznick (I Can See You, The Viewer) and Australian video artist Jade Boyd (Kyle Hall, Alan Howarth, Mike Huckaby, Goodiepal).
Artists confirmed for the March edition include west country tape technician Ekoplekz and London reverb fiends Raime. In addition, The Outer Church’s alter ego Joseph Stannard has collaborated with Brian Pyle of Ensemble Economique on a 30-minute piece for the 2011 season of Jonny Mugwump’s Weird Tales For Winter.
The Outer Church congregates at Komedia in Brighton, Thursday 10th February, tickets a snip at £5/£4 concs.
