Another day, another long-lost Frank Ocean curio.
Yesterday saw the circulation of ‘PDA’, a track recorded under Ocean’s old ‘Lonny Breaux’ moniker as a guide track for The Backstreet Boys. Today’s Ocean delight, as spotted by Soul Culture, is discarded oldie ‘Math’.
‘Math’ is vastly superior to the sickly-sweet ‘PDA’. Over jittery future-shocked R&B, Ocean spins out a series of calculus themed chat-up lines. The melody is delightfully untethered, the metaphors brilliantly tortured – ‘Math’ really wouldn’t sound out of place on Nostalgia, Ultra. Algebra hasn’t come over this slinky in a long time.
