August record shop Rough Trade, once a charmingly ramshackle organisation, is expanding its operations substantially.

As Music Week report, the retailer-cum-label has just announced plans for a New York outlet. The Stateside Rough Trade will be based in Williamsburg, and promises a self-styled “saturnalia” of music. Co-owner Stephen Godfroy called the development the “next bold step in our evolution”. Rough Trade NYC, in partnership with notable venue The Bowery Ballroom, will also host an array of live gigs and in-store sessions.

To coincide with their steps into the New World, Rough Trade are also launching a US website and online store. Rough Trade already owns flagship stores in East and West London, and, as of this week, a Paris branch as well.
